A political controversy has erupted in West Bengal ahead of the next phase of assembly elections after Trinamool Congress leader Jahangir Khan made a sharp remark against Election Commission-appointed IPS officer Ajay Pal Sharma.
Speaking to reporters, Khan said, “If he is Singham, I am Pushpa,” referring to popular movie characters while criticizing the officer’s actions in Falta constituency. The statement quickly grabbed attention and added more heat to the election atmosphere.
Ajay Pal Sharma, a Uttar Pradesh cadre IPS officer known for his tough policing image, was recently deployed as a police observer in South 24 Parganas district by the Election Commission. He had visited the area after complaints of alleged voter intimidation.
TMC leaders accused the officer of overstepping his role and trying to pressure party workers. On the other hand, supporters of strict action praised Sharma’s tough stand during the sensitive poll season.
The “Singham vs Pushpa” comment has now become one of the biggest talking points in Bengal politics, with both sides exchanging sharp words before voting day.
