Google has officially begun work on its massive $15 billion AI data centre hub in Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh, marking one of the biggest foreign investments in India’s digital infrastructure sector. The groundbreaking ceremony took place on April 28, with Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu and senior officials in attendance.

The upcoming facility, called the Google Cloud India AI Hub, is expected to become Google’s largest infrastructure project in India and one of its biggest AI hubs outside the United States. The project will be developed over five years and aims to strengthen India’s cloud computing and artificial intelligence ecosystem.

Located near Visakhapatnam, the hub will include a hyperscale data centre campus spread across multiple sites. Reports say the project is being built in partnership with AdaniConneX and Airtel Nxtra.

Industry experts believe the investment could generate thousands of direct and indirect jobs, improve digital services, and position India as a major global AI and cloud technology destination.

This project is also expected to accelerate demand for renewable energy, advanced networking, and semiconductor infrastructure in India.
